Vision
Leadership and excellence in developing scientific research for the discovery and manufacture of new drugs, and graduating specialized pharmacists able to use medicinal plants and dietary supplements in accordance with World Health Organization standards.
Mission
Providing high-quality pharmacy education that focuses on studying active compounds, developing extraction and separation techniques, and linking theory with scientific research to deliver safe and effective natural medicines that meet the community’s needs.
About the Department
The Department of Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants in colleges of pharmacy is concerned with exploring, extracting and developing drugs and active substances from their natural (plant and animal) sources. It aims to qualify pharmacy students scientifically and practically to benefit from natural resources in support of healthcare.
Program Objectives
Focus on natural products as the basis for designing and developing new therapeutic drugs.
Conduct applied scientific research aimed at making use of local plants, purifying their constituents and improving extraction methods.
Prepare a modern academic and laboratory environment and update curricula to keep pace with global developments.
Raise community awareness of the importance of the safe use of herbal medicine and dietary supplements.
