The College of Pharmacy at Al-Nahrain University held a Master’s thesis defense on the morning of Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Al-Razi Hall. The thesis was submitted by Baraa Mohammed Shihab Ahmed and entitled:
“Design and In Vitro–In Vivo Evaluation of a Thermoresponsive Injectable In-Situ Gel for Local and Sustained Levofloxacin Hemihydrate Delivery in Diabetic Ulcer Treatment.”
The study aimed to design, optimize, and evaluate a thermoresponsive injectable in-situ gel incorporating poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles loaded with levofloxacin hemihydrate (LVH), in combination with hyaluronic acid, for the localized treatment of diabetic ulcers.
The research involved developing a multifunctional topical drug delivery system that combines the antimicrobial activity and sustained release of levofloxacin hemihydrate with the supportive role of hyaluronic acid in wound healing. The formulation was also evaluated through in vitro and in vivo studies to investigate its potential to promote diabetic ulcer healing.
The examining committee consisted of:
- Prof. Dr. Nawal Ayash Rajab – University of Baghdad / College of Pharmacy – Chair.
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Amira Abdul-Ilah Radi – Al-Nahrain University / College of Pharmacy – Member.
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Hiba Majid Hamoud – Al-Nahrain University / College of Pharmacy – Member.
- Assist. Prof. Dr. Yasser Qasim Mohammed – Al-Nahrain University / College of Pharmacy – Member and Supervisor.
At the conclusion of the defense, following a discussion of the scientific aspects of the thesis and questions addressed to the student, the thesis was approved, and the student was awarded a Master’s degree with Distinction.
This thesis defense reflects the College of Pharmacy’s commitment at Al-Nahrain University to supporting scientific research and advancing applied pharmaceutical studies, particularly research focused on developing innovative drug delivery systems that address healthcare challenges and improve therapeutic outcomes
