A New Scientific Achievement for the Department of Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy – College of Pharmacy, Al-Nahrain University
In a new scientific achievement that adds to the research output of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy, two original research articles have been published in Pharmacia, a scientific journal published by Pensoft Publishers and indexed in Scopus (Q2).
These publications represent the outcome of the research efforts of Master’s students in Pharmaceutical Sciences, under the scientific supervision of the Head of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy, Assist. Prof. Dr. Yasser Qasim Al-Majidi. This achievement reflects the department’s commitment to supporting innovative applied research in pharmaceutics and advanced drug delivery systems.
🔬 First Research Article
“Development and Evaluation of Clobetasol Propionate-Loaded Nanoliposomal Hydrogel Integrated with Plant-Derived Microneedle-Like Microstructures for Site-Specific Psoriasis Therapy”
This research was conducted by Master’s student Shahad Sadiq Jaafar under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Yasser Qasim Al-Majidi. It focuses on developing an innovative topical drug delivery system for psoriasis treatment by combining clobetasol propionate-loaded nanoliposomes with a hydrogel and plant-derived microneedle-like structures. The aim is to enhance drug delivery and local deposition, thereby improving therapeutic efficacy.
The research was published on August 12, 2026.
DOI: 10.3897/pharmacia.73.e199561
🔬 Second Research Article
“Hyaluronic Acid-Functionalized Thermoresponsive In Situ Gel Embedded with Levofloxacin-Loaded PLGA Nanoparticles for Enhanced Diabetic Wound Healing”
This research was conducted by Master’s student Baraa Mahmoud Shehab under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Yasser Qasim Al-Majidi. It investigates the development of an advanced nanotechnology-based drug delivery system for diabetic wound treatment. The system incorporates levofloxacin-loaded PLGA nanoparticles into a thermoresponsive in situ gel designed for topical injection. The formulation is administered in liquid form and transforms into a gel at physiological temperature, creating a localized drug depot tailored to the wound site.
One of the most notable achievements of the developed system was its ability to provide sustained, prolonged levofloxacin release for up to 240 hours in formulations A and A+, and up to 336 hours (14 days) in formulation B. The system also demonstrated antibacterial activity and improved wound healing, with the hyaluronic acid-enhanced A+ formulation exhibiting the best therapeutic effect in the diabetic wound model.
The research was published on August 6, 2026.
DOI: 10.3897/pharmacia.73.e205720
The publication of these two research articles represents the culmination of the outstanding scientific and laboratory efforts of postgraduate students, supported by academic supervision and guidance aimed at developing innovative research ideas and transforming Master’s projects into high-quality scientific publications in internationally indexed journals.
🌟 Congratulations to Master’s student Shahad Sadiq Jaafar and Master’s student Baraa Mahmoud Shehab on this well-deserved scientific achievement. We wish them continued success and further excellence in their academic and research careers.
