Under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Haider Bahaa Sahib Al-Hassani, the College of Pharmacy at Al-Nahrain University held a Master’s thesis defense on the morning of Sunday, October 18, 2026. The thesis was submitted by Shahad Sadiq Jaafar Hassan and entitled:

“Development and Evaluation of Clobetasol Propionate-Loaded Nanoliposomal Hydrogel Integrated with Plant-Derived Microneedle-like Microstructures for Site-Specific Psoriasis Therapy.”

The defense took place at Al-Razi Hall, College of Pharmacy, with the Minister chairing the examining committee. His participation reflects his commitment to supporting scientific research and postgraduate studies and encouraging researchers to pursue contemporary scientific topics that contribute to the advancement of the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.

The thesis aimed to develop and evaluate an innovative topical therapeutic system based on a clobetasol propionate-loaded nanoliposomal hydrogel integrated with plant-derived microneedle-like microstructures. The proposed system seeks to improve drug delivery to psoriasis-affected sites and explore ways to enhance the effectiveness of topical treatment.

The study examined the application of nanotechnology in developing transdermal drug delivery systems and designing advanced pharmaceutical formulations that combine the properties of hydrogels and nanoliposomal vesicles. It also investigated the potential use of plant-derived microstructures to improve drug delivery to targeted tissues.

The examining committee consisted of:

1. Prof. Dr. Haider Bahaa Sahib Al-Hassani – Chair.
2. Prof. Dr. Mowaffaq Mohammed Gharib – Member.
3. Assist. Prof. Dr. Amira Abdul-Ilah Radi – Member.
4. Assist. Prof. Dr. Yasser Qasim Mohammed – Member and Supervisor.

At the conclusion of the defense, following scientific deliberations, evaluation of the thesis, and discussion with the student, the committee approved the thesis and awarded Shahad Sadiq Jaafar Hassan a Master’s degree with Distinction, in recognition of her research efforts and the significance of the study in advancing drug delivery systems and modern pharmaceutical therapies.

This thesis defense reflects the College of Pharmacy’s commitment at Al-Nahrain University to promoting rigorous scientific research and supporting innovative applied studies, in line with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s efforts to advance research output at Iraqi universities and strengthen its contribution to society and the healthcare sector.
