As part of its ongoing scientific activities in the field of research, the College of Pharmacy at Al-Nahrain University announced the publication of a scientific research paper by Assistant Lecturer Tayba Majid, a faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, in the international journal Journal of Molecular Structure, which is indexed in Scopus Q1 and published by the global publishing house Elsevier.

📌 The research is entitled:

Synthesis, Characterization, Molecular Docking and Anti-Corrosion Activities of New Pyrimidine Derivatives

📌 The study focused on:
The synthesis, characterization, molecular docking study, and anti-corrosion activity of new pyrimidine derivatives.

🎯 The research aimed to synthesize new pyrimidine-based compounds and investigate their potential chemical and pharmaceutical properties, in addition to evaluating their effectiveness as corrosion inhibitors and exploring their possible applications in pharmaceutical and industrial fields.

📌 The study addressed several important scientific aspects, most notably:

● Synthesizing new pyrimidine derivatives starting from chalcone compounds.
● Characterizing the synthesized compounds using FTIR, ¹H-NMR, and ¹³C-NMR techniques to confirm their chemical structures.
● Conducting molecular docking studies to evaluate the ability of the compounds to interact with potential pharmaceutical protein targets.
● Investigating the efficiency of the compounds as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in saline media using advanced electrochemical techniques.
● Analyzing the metal surface using AFM and FE-SEM techniques to understand the mechanism of protective layer formation on the metal surface.

The results of the study demonstrated that some of the synthesized compounds showed high corrosion inhibition efficiency reaching approximately 95%, in addition to exhibiting the ability to interact with important protein targets. These findings highlight the potential for developing new compounds with multiple applications in both industrial and pharmaceutical sciences.

This scientific achievement reflects the commitment of the College of Pharmacy at Al-Nahrain University to supporting scientific research and encouraging publication in reputable international journals, thereby enhancing the college’s academic standing at both the local and international levels.
