As part of its continuous scientific activities in the field of research, the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the College of Pharmacy – Al-Nahrain University announced the publication of a scientific research paper by several faculty members of the department: Lecturer Dr. Muhannad Abdul-Sahib Zaboon, Lecturer Dr. Aya Fawzi Talib, and Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Murtadha, in the International Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Research, a journal specialized in medical and pharmaceutical studies.
The research is entitled:
“Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Toward Pharmacovigilance and Adverse Drug Reaction Reporting.”
The study aimed to evaluate the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to pharmacovigilance and adverse drug reaction reporting among pharmacy students at Al-Nahrain University, as it represents one of the key aspects in enhancing patient safety and improving the safe use of medications within healthcare institutions.
The study included a descriptive cross-sectional research design involving fourth- and fifth-year students at the College of Pharmacy. Data were collected through a structured electronic questionnaire designed to measure the level of knowledge and behaviors related to adverse drug reaction reporting.
The results of the study showed that students possess a moderate level of knowledge and practice in the field of pharmacovigilance, along with positive attitudes toward the importance of reporting adverse drug reactions. The findings also indicated that specialized academic education and training in this field contribute to enhancing practical performance and improving reporting behaviors related to adverse drug reactions.
The researchers recommended strengthening the integration of pharmacovigilance concepts within academic curricula and practical training in colleges of pharmacy, which would help develop students’ skills in detecting and reporting adverse drug reactions, ultimately contributing to improved patient safety and healthcare quality.
This scientific achievement reflects the commitment of the College of Pharmacy at Al-Nahrain University to supporting scientific research and encouraging the publication of studies in reputable scientific journals, thereby contributing to the advancement of pharmaceutical knowledge and serving the community.
