As part of its ongoing scientific research activities, a faculty member from the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the College of Pharmacy – Al-Nahrain University, Assistant Lecturer Kanar Muthanna, has published a scientific paper in a peer-reviewed journal.
📌 The research is titled:
Phytochemical Screening and Evaluation of Antibacterial and Antifungal Activities of Jasminum sambac (L.) Aiton Cultivated in Iraq
📌 Arabic title:
Phytochemical screening and evaluation of antibacterial and antifungal activities of Arabian jasmine cultivated in Iraq (Jasminum sambac).
🎯 Research Objective:
The study aimed to analyze the active phytochemical compounds in the leaves of Arabian jasmine cultivated in Iraq and to investigate their biological activity as antibacterial and antifungal agents. The goal is to explore the potential use of these natural compounds in developing antimicrobial drugs.
📌 Key Aspects of the Study:
The research included several scientific components, most notably:
•Conducting phytochemical screening to detect active secondary compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, and terpenoids.
•Analyzing chemical constituents using GC-MS technology to identify biologically active compounds of pharmaceutical importance.
•Evaluating the antibacterial and antifungal activity of the plant extract against various pathogenic microorganisms.
📌 Results:
The study revealed that the leaf extract of Jasminum sambac contains effective bioactive compounds with inhibitory activity against certain types of bacteria and fungi. This indicates the plant’s potential as a promising source for developing antimicrobial pharmaceutical compounds.
This scientific achievement reflects the College of Pharmacy’s commitment at Al-Nahrain University to supporting research and enhancing publication in reputable scientific journals, contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the healthcare sector.
